Did you ever wonder where the term “women of color” came from?

Below is a video of Loretta Ross at a Western States Center training back in 2011 explaining just how the term “women of color” was created:

“It is a solidarity definition. A commitment to work in collaboration.”

Shout out to the Black Women’s Agenda!

I had the pleasure of meeting Loretta Ross at the UC Berkeley 2014 Empowering Women of Color Conference. She was incredibly kind, brilliant, and delivered a wonderful keynote. Thanks, Loretta, for all of the amazing reproductive justice work you do!

Also, check out Sister Song: Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective; another organization that Loretta Ross works/has worked with.
