RIP Dr. Ronald E. McNair

January 28, 2016 marked the 30 year anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion.

As a member of the 2015 cohort of Portland Sate University McNair Scholars, I think of Dr. Ronald E. McNair often; a legacy that I take very seriously. One of my favorite facts about him was that he took his saxophone with him on the Challenger — he wanted to play it in space! McNair was a dreamer, with multiple degrees, and a black belt. I want to live in a world where Black folks can play music in space…thanks to his legacy, I just might.
